We’re talking crispy, golden chicken strips perfectly seasoned with salt, pepper, and a dash of Chinese five-spice. It’s super easy, with a lovely bit of heat from the garlic and optional chillies, but nothing too tricky. Serve it with some fresh greens and fluffy rice. It's a proper treat for any night of the week. Let’s get cracking!
Tips:
Get saucy: Add a squeeze of lime or a splash of soy sauce for extra flavour.
Ingredients:
1 garlic clove
1 bunch Bok Choy
3 chicken breasts
¼ cup plain flour
¼ teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
1 ¼ teaspoons salt
¾ teaspoon ground white pepper
½ cup oil
2 dried chillies (optional)
1 ½ cups of white rice
Step 1: Make your mix In a bowl, mix together the plain flour, Chinese five-spice powder, salt, and white pepper.
Step 2: Make the rice Steam your rice as per pack instructions.
Step 3: Coat the chicken Slice the chicken breasts into 1cm strips. Toss them in the flour mixture until they’re all nicely coated. Get your frypan ready!
Step 4: Fry the chook Heat up a frying pan on medium-high, then pour in enough oil to just cover the base. Once the oil's hot, add your chicken strips and fry until golden and crispy on all sides—should only take a few minutes each side.
Step 5: Add the Garlic and chili As the chicken cooks, crush some garlic and chop up your dried chillies. Once the chicken is golden, take it out and pop it on paper towels to drain.
Step 6: While the pan's still hot, add the garlic and chillies for a quick fry—just 30 seconds should do it. Add the bok choy and toss with a bit of oyster or hoisin sauce.
Step 7: Serve it up Serve the crispy chicken with steamed rice, a sprinkle of spring onions, and those delicious, garlicky greens on the side. It's too easy!
